The average person has 8-10 lbs of fecal matter that we work to soften and help them eliminate. During the process, warm filtered water is used to soak and remove waste that adheres to the walls of the entire large intestines. While the client is lying comfortably on a table, a small disposable speculum is inserted into the rectum. Water flows in the colon via a small water tube and out through a different tube called a waste tube which carries the impacted feces, mucous, and toxins. You will see the expelled waste matter when it passes through a special viewing window and there is virtually no odor. We use state-of-the-art closed system equipment approved by the FDA.
What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Also known as a “colonic” or “colon lavage”, colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine without the use of drugs or chemicals by repeated, gentle flushing with water.
Is Colon Hydrotherapy safe?
Yes. Using FDA approved equipment, individual components which are used once and then thrown away and sterile procedures, there is no danger of contamination. In fact, treatments are much safer than the common home enema. Our skilled therapist always exercises care.
How does Colon Hydrotherapy compare to an enema?
An enema only reaches and bathes the lower part of the colon, while Colon Hydrotherapy bathes the entire length of the colon. The colon is bathed over a longer period of time, thus helping to rehydrate the colon and soften any hardened waste that may be stuck to the walls of the colon.
Can constipation occur even if I have 1 or 2 bowel movements a day?
Yes. Mucoid plaque and gas in the colon may interfere with natural peristaltic action, resulting in incomplete—though frequent—bowel movements. This backup of toxic waste can cause a wide range of problems in the digestive tract and throughout the entire body.
How many times do I need Colon Hydrotherapy?
The number of treatments varies with each individual and depends on your degree of health. It will also depend on your ability to change or improve your lifestyle. For the first-time client an initial series of six to ten visits over several weeks is recommended. Once you have completed the initial series it is recommended a colon cleansing four times a year. If may help you to remember to have a cleansing with the change of every season.
Do treatments hurt?
No. In fact, the client assists with the insertion of the speculum thus insuring comfort with that part of the procedure. The filling water pressure is from a minimum of 1/4 psi and never more than 2 psi. The temperature of the water and flow are carefully monitored by the therapist with feedback from the client.
Is Colon Hydrotherapy habit-forming?
No. The purpose of cleansing the colon is to allow it to relax and rejuvenate in order to promote better peristalsis. The colon cannot heal when it is constantly working to get rid of accumulated wastes, gasses, and toxins.
How much of the intestines are actually cleansed with Colon Hydrotherapy?
During a session the therapist is actually able to bathe the full length of the colon, approximately five to five and a half feet. The cleansing of the small intestine is not possible because nature provides a little “one-way door” called the ileocecal valve that prevents water and waste from entering. The buildup in the small intestine is cleared with the help of nutritional supplements taken orally during a series of cleansing and detoxification.
Should I see my doctor before having Colon Hydrotherapy?
It is always a good idea to consult your doctor, but a medical examination is not required. Colon Hydrotherapy is safer than home enemas, and at Advanced Detox Center, we use only a state-of-the-art approved device professionally administered by an I-ACT certified colon therapist. Persons with certain medical conditions, however, should not have Colon Hydrotherapy.
Does having a menstrual period at the time of my cleanse have an effect on the treatment?
No. In fact, during your period is usually a good time to receive a treatment, since your body is already cleansing. Your menstrual flow will not interfere with the success of the treatment. Flushing the colon will also reduce abdominal pressure associated with menstrual cycles.
What should I do to prepare for Colon Hydrotherapy?
A cleansing diet of fruit and vegetables for one day before your appointment is recommended. Drink 8–10 glasses of water a day. Since your abdomen will be massaged it is a good idea to avoid eating two hours before your appointment. Avoid carbonated beverages—they will only add gas to the colon. Come relaxed, and maintain a positive, cheerful attitude.
Can I work after a treatment?
Yes. In most cases Colon Hydrotherapy should not interfere with your scheduled day. However each person is different and your reaction depends on the amount of toxins in your body. If you are detoxifying while having colonics, you may feel more tired and run down as your body cleanses itself of the toxins. Most clients report feeling refreshed and energized.
How long does a treatment take?
Your first appointment will take about an hour and will include a consultation and case history. The colonic itself will take 30 to 40 minutes and each visit thereafter will take about an 50 minutes in total.
Will I experience any intestinal discomfort or fatigue after the cleansing?
You should not feel any intestinal discomfort, but cleansing will release old debris and toxins which might cause you to feel tired or to have flu like symptoms, especially in early treatments. If so, resting is recommended. These symptoms will usually pass within 24 hours.
Will Colon Hydrotherapy disturb my normal intestinal flora and electrolytes?
Yes. Colon cleansing will reduce both flora and electrolytes. However, after each session, you can reintroduce intestinal flora into the colon with probiotics which will be offered to you along with an electrolyte drink before leaving the clinic. You can also replace your intestinal flora by drinking Kefir or Essential Duo.
